Dallas Pugh Foundation

May 20th, 1995, we lost our son and brother, Dallas to Teen Suicide.

We never understood how something this tragic could happen to us. A middle class family growing up in a small town where everyone knows your name not to mention loving parent's, family support and most of all togetherness. We never sensed the pain that Dallas felt. A pain so deep he could not express.

There was never a dull moment around the Pugh home. It was always so much fun having 3 kids running around. We always had friends over and played our hearts out. Our love for life was unstoppable, there was nothing that could ever come in the way of our family.

Until one day our son and brother Dallas made a decision that changed our lives forever. Our Family has never been the same since. Dallas was the most fun, loving and caring person. He had a passion for everything he did. Dallas was always the star of the show and was loved by so many. We never knew that Dallas was hurting inside. His plate was too full and felt that he could not tell anyone. Dallas thought the only way out was to end his life, he never knew, that was not an option.

This is why we have launched the Dallas Pugh Foundation. A foundation established to help safeguard our youth and young adults from complicated decisions and life's experiences. We are committed to educating the youth by embracing our standards of positive thinking, helping others and not being afraid to ask for help.

The Dallas Pugh Foundation has committed to help raise 1.5 million dollars to build the Dallas Pugh Gymnasium at the McGrath Family YMCA in Rancho San Diego. It will be a 7,000 square foot, state of the art facility where kids will be able to come to run, jump and play. Amongst the Dallas Pugh Gymnasium is an additional 30,000 square feet of recreation not to mention the Outdoor/Indoor Soccer Field and Baseball field. We are looking to open the doors spring of 2010. We are so very excited and want to thank everyone for all of their continued support.

The McGrath Family YMCA in East County is currently in the process of raising major gifts to build it's next phase, located in Rancho San Diego at the corner of Jamacha and Campo Road. The existing sports facilities will be joined by:

A 7,000 square foot multi-purpose gymnasium and community Center - The Dallas Pugh Gymnasium
A Full Service fitness Center with multiple areas for special fitness Classes - The Sycuan Wellness Center
A youth and teen center with indoor and outdoor facilities
An aquatics center

Make a difference for a kid like Me

When the closing bell rings at the end of the day and dot coms become dot nothings, I'm still your best investment; I'm your hedge against crime, disease, poverty and despair. I'm your best hope tomorrow and the security of this great country. I'm the asset that builds long-term value and appreciates daily. I'm your future secured. Given a place to nurture my spirit and channel my energy, I could do extraordinary things when I grow up. I might explore the uncharted... here or beyond. Maybe I will discover a cure for cancer or advance a new technology, I might write a book or direct a movie, I might even be a legendary basketball player. And when asked what made it all possible for me, I will reach for words of graditude, my eyes tearing up, gripping the podium firmly with both hands, I will tell them of growing up at the Y - the care and guidance I received, the friends and coaches who helped me. Fighting back a lump in my throat, I will acknowledge you - you who had the foresight to make an investment in me when I was young. We might never meet, So, thank you now for all that you will have done for me and the hundreds like me. You took stock in me and in a place we need - The Dallas Pugh Gymnasium at the McGrath Family YMCA!
